VS.

I'm gonna have to go with Brighten on this one. God knows I love The Maine, especially John Oh's voice, but I also really love Brighten and Merry Christmas Baby totally owns Ho Ho Hopefully.

More and more I'm finding out how small this world is. I totally know this chick! She's the president of this Student Org I used to be a part of (until I realized it just wasn't for me) I'm pretty proud of myself for knowing who she is, since I know a whopping total of ten people at Columbia. I've never talked to her much, but I know a little about her and shit is she one accomplished woman. It's always a major bum out reading about someone with the exact same major as you with a list of accomplishments under their belt and you've got nothing to show for. But then again, she's a senior and I am but a mere sophomore. It's people like her though that remind that I need to step up my game and not to just become another face in the crowd.

Oh yeah, she runs a pretty sweet music blog called Familiarize Yourself, I highly recommend checking it out.
HAPPY 100th POST!!

A little over a month 'till Contra. Stoked.
CUNT.

I don't think I'll ever understand why people find this word so terrible.
I called Miley Cyrus a cunt yesterday and my sister told me that wasn't a very nice word.
Well neither is 'Nigger' 'Nigga', but everyone from gangstas from the streets of Compron to white boys from the burbs throw around that word like it's nothing. The fact of the matter is that people just aren't used to the word 'cunt'. But just because you don't hear people saying "cunt this" and "cunt that", doesn't make it any worse than other swear words-a swear word is a swear word. period.

Now I know what you're thinking: 'Cunt' isn't a swear word, it's mearley a derogatory term for a vagina. But, being as it is a 'vulgar' term, that counts as profanity which is aka a swear word. Case Closed.

The next two weeks are going to be a BITCH.

I hope this doesn't make me a fan girl for wanting this.

Why is this show so fucking awesome?

I'm falling in love with
Paramore's Brand New Eyes
with every listen.
I honestly wasn't into it at first, I made the mistake of thinking they would recreate an album identical to Riot! God was I wrong.
Brand New Eyes is Paramore in a better and more mature form. The over all feeling is considerably relaxed but it's still traced with their punk roots. What gets me the most is the lyrical content. Never have I been so in love with an album on a completely lyrical basis. Even if you don't pay two seconds to what's being said, it'd still be absolutely amazing. I don't think I'll ever dub Paramore as 'my favorite' but I have the utmost respect for them-they truly are one of the greatest bands in the pop-punk scene. I'm eager to see what they'll produce in times to come.

...oh and is it weird to idolize a girl that's the same age as you? Fuck, I don't care, Hayley William is the shit...total girl crush.

I hate Black Friday.

26,
I'm so thankful to be home! Chicago is only an hour away from the burbs and I come home on a semi-regular basis, so I'm sure to anyone else it doesn't seem like that big of a deal but the past couple of days have been really shitty and I've dying to get a break from school for quite some time, so being home right now is the absolute best. It's like a break from reality. This year it's just my mom, sister, and I-nothing fancy. I think I'm going to spend most of the day relaxing, I have to work Black Friday tomorrow! yikes...

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

200 and something artists that will be showcasing
the 2010 SXSW Festival were just announced yesterday.
As I was looking through the list, I was proud of myself
that I've actually listened to some of the bands.
I've even done previous blogs about some of them (I took the liberty to highlight them)
As a Music Business major, it's kind of my dream mission to go to SXSW, but sadly my wallet just can't afford it right now. But for those who do have the 700 dollars it takes to attend (that's just the ticket price by the way, you still have to factor in transportation, lodging and dining), you can sign up for a badge here

My roommate is officially driving me loco.

Taylor Swift really is the greatest person at making the most simple subjects and lyrics into the cutest fucking song you've ever heard.

'Cause when you're fifteen and somebody tells you they love you
You're gonna believe them
And when you're fifteen feeling like there's nothing to figure out
Well, count to ten, take it in
This is life before you know who you're gonna be
Fifteen

Anyone else who would write such a simple and blatantly obvious song would probably be shunned by all the music buffs. But with Taylor Swift, this shit just works. Not to mention she's reaching out to a bunch of hormonal, emotional teenagers so she's bound to be a hit...

Dear Leighton Meester,

You're very lucky that I love Gossip Girl because frankly this song is shit...I know I shouldn't bash on any artist because there's someone out there that is totally in love with this song. But, I've heard you sing before and you're actually really good. Most actresses turned singers bite the big one (Hilary, Lindsay, Tyra, Raven-Symone...) but you have honest to god straight up talent. So the fact that you choose THIS as a song to do, let along as a first single, pisses me off. Also, just because you can carry a tune better than the average person does not give you the right to create an over-produced, generic, rather boring pop song for the masses. We have enough of that already. Sorry Leighton, but I'm just not buying it.

P.S.
I blame my new found contempt for Cobra Starship on you.

Sincerely,
Jasmin
Soooo, I happen to have a complete and utter obsession with reading
the personal ads on Craigslist. How can I not though?
It's just so damn entertaining!

Take example A:
"Im looking for a normal kinky girl that would like to talk"

I'm sorry but, do girl's honestly reply to this? I could understand if this was some porn dating site but really man, Craigslist? I don't think so.

Then there's the guys who really poor their hearts out:

"Are there any real women out there that are looking for a relationship and actually comin to craigslist to find one? i just moved here and ill be here for about a year but year is a long time by myself... i have yet to meet any one and i really miss having some one to hold and cuddle with... i have posted on here before but all i get is bots and website offers... im starting to give up hope on this place... im in the navy and im in pretty good shape... i played football my whole life back in texas and never had to worry about being lonely... but it seems like now that im here no one wants to even give me a chance... kinda depressing but hopefully this will change it... i have a cell and more pics but you cant really judge me till you have a conversation with me and actually get to know me.. im a hopeless romantic... any one wanna give me a chance?"

I don't blame these guys for trying but, seriously if you didn't have luck with the first post, it's not very likely you'll have luck with the second post. Sometimes I'm tempted to reply back (some of them do seem worth talking to) but I think me replying to craiglist ads is a little more pathetic than actually making a craigslist ad.

Oh, and the other reason why I read Craigslist so much,
is because sometimes-just sometimes-you find a guy like this:

Daaaayuummmmm....

I've been waiting a long time for this video. Ok that's a bit of a stretch, I've actually only known for about two weeks that this was to be their next single. BUT I am stoked that they chose this to promote next because it's one of the better songs on the album. It's been on constant rotation ever since the day I first listened to it. You really have to hand it to Paramore for completely switching it up this year, not only with their music but with their videos as well. I think we're all used to seeing Paramore videos where basically Hayley goes ape style for three minutes. This video is the most elaborate (and mostly likely most $$$) thing they've ever done and while, it's not my favorite (I'm gonna have to put Ignorance in the top spot) I give them major props for it.

Awwwwwww shit, Stereo Failure is back and in full effect! Now I know what you're thinking (by you, I pretty much mean the figment of my imagination because I'm not entirely sure anyone actually reads this), where have I been all this time? Well you know, the usual-studying, working, exploring, having a life...But I've decided that it's time I get back to the grind and continue blogging. This time around things are going to get a little more personalized though. Up until this point I've really just been focusing on the music side of this blog and not so much on the bullshit part. Looking through previous posts, I've decided that I really want this site to have more of a "college girl blogging because she's bored" type feel, rather than "college girl blogging because she's bored trying to make herself sound like a know it all about the industry" So yeah, expect to see a lot more random shit, but just as much music related posts.

Enjoy!

Today, my mom took my phone away from me. I really wanted it back so in mystery google I put in "please text my mom and tell her to give me my phone back" and then I included her number. About a minute later my mom walks in my room with a very worried look on her face and a text that read "It would be a smart idea to give your daughter her phone back." She gave it back to me. Thank you to whoever that was. MLIA.

Video Killed the Radio Star

Tuesday,Nov
10,
Apparently, this is the week for music video premieres.

Lady Gaga just released her video for her new single 'Bad Romance' today. Truthfully, I think the song itself is kind of shit. It's not bad, but it's really just another mass produced pop song-nothing to get worked up over. But the video, my god...

Then there's A Rocket to the Moon who just released the video for the first single off their new album, On Your Side. I'd say it's a pretty decent video-you really shouldn't expect anything overly amazing from a band like this. The concept was cute though.

Cobra Starship also came out with a new video. This one being for their latest single 'Hot Mess'. While overall I think the new Cobra music is shit compared to Viva La Cobra, I actually really like this song. I especially like it a lot more then Good Girls Go Bad  (I won't even get STARTED on my feelings towards that song). The video is entertaining, as is everything concerned with Cobra Starship. But honestly, shots of the band riding around in a van for 3 minutes shouldn't be considered a video.

Even Fall Out Boy dropped a video on us! I always love homemade videos like this. And it's nice to see video footage of FOB in their classic days. As much as they like to deny it, they really have changed since the days of playing punk shows in the basements of white suburbia. But change is good and FOB remains to be the one band that has changed their sound considerably but is still worth listening to (ahem take a hint Good Charlotte, Jonas Brothers, Cobra Starship...)

Alpha Dog

Fall Out Boy | MySpace Video

There are a couple other videos that have dropped, but I just don't give a shit about those ones.
Thought I had called it quits, ey? Well, truthfully, I kind of did. Actually, I didn't quit, I more so just got really lazy. Anyway, I've decided it's time to start this thing back up. Before I return full force, I need to do some rethinking on where I want the direction of this blog to be. In the mean time, I'll be posting small things here and there, but don't expect anything big for the time being.
